– OUR CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS IS CURRENTLY OPEN –
ANNOUNCEMENT: THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO NOVEMBER 1ST!!
The Artificial Selection Project is open to a variety of art forms (fiction, music, video, and visual) that are different. Written work must be previously unpublished and the sole property of the writer submitting.
We are looking for fearless, engaging work and are open to a variety of formal and narrative modes. Challenge us, surprise us, confound us, terrify us, but whatever you do, bring us with you. Also when submitting, please include your name and complete contact information.
SUBMIT ORIGINAL WORK TO:
THEARTIFICIALSELECTION@GMAIL.COM
– The Guidelines –
Fiction: 7,500 words max. Preferably between 10-15 pps, as space is limited. And we are open to flash fiction as well. Include a brief synopsis..
Art work: A jpeg of your original work of at least 300 DPI. Include a brief description (style/genre) and an artist bio.
Music: An MP3 of a song that represents your work. Include a brief description (style/genre) and an artist bio.
Video: A link of a video that has been posted on youtube, vimeo, or any other major video sharing site. Include a brief description (style/genre) and an artist bio.
Written work submitted simultaneously to other publications is not a problem. Just let us know if some other folks accept it. We also do not accept previously published written work.
I have forgotten my password and have it automatically in & am afraid to mess with it as my co-writer is always changing the site. Forgive me.
I do like you.

do blog articles constitute “previously published”?
LikeLike
Nope! As long as they haven’t appeared in someone else’s literary journal or novel, then they’re fair game!

Nice. 😉 Do we have to submit it as an attachment or place it in the body of the mail?

As an attachment, please! Makes it easier to format 🙂

I’m very interested in submitting some of my work, but was wondering if you could say a few more words about what specifically you’re looking for? Specifically, any genre limitations? And how acceptable is profanity and other non-kid-friendly elements? Thanks so much! 🙂
LikeLike
Absolutely! We’re accepting stories/photography/illustrations from all genres – comedy to sci-fi to mystery to horror to erotica. That said, we are an adult-oriented journal, so swearing is fine as long as it feels right as well as other…risque elements 😉 I hope that answers your question!

Exxxxxcellent! Exactly what I was hoping to hear. 🙂 Thanks for the reply!

Do you also accept poetry?
LikeLike
Not as of right now. Poetry on E-Books tends to get shredded and thrown about the page in terms of formatting. We’re looking into HTML-5 programming and figuring out a solution to this problem. But for the moment, we’re only accepting poetry to be published on this website, which we will be posting in the near future! So submit your poetry and look for it on here soon!

Hey, thanks for finding me n the morass of blogs out there! Otherwise I wouldn’t have found you. Is this a one-time publication you’re aiming to do?
An Aug 1 deadline is tight for me. I’m working on a 2nd edition of my published memoir and a new novel. Lot’s on my plate. But I’d love to get a piece of your action! I suspect you are collecting stories for an anthology, right?
I’ll post this on a writerly blog for which I am a contributing author. 🙂
And thanks for the follow. Hope you enjoy my zany little blog!

Hey there Lorna!
There’s a pretty big chance that the August 1 deadline is going to get pushed further into the Fall (for all those MFA kids looking for journals to submit to), so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. We’ll make an announcement regarding this later on.
This will definitely not be our only journal! We plan to make this an annual release, hopefully working in a theme next time.
Thanks for checking us out and for the feature!!

Great! I’ll see if I can pull something together either for this edition or for a future publication.

Do you have a minimum word limit for short fiction? I was thinking in the region of 2,500 – 3,500… Thanks!

Nope, no minimums. 2500-3500 is a perfect region!

What about cartoons that have already been published on my blog? Just wondering what your definition of “published” is. thanks in advance!
LikeLike
“Published” is if your cartoons have been picked up by a publisher and claimed by someone other than yourself as intellectual property. If you’ve published them on your blog and have received no renumeration for them, then feel free to submit them to us!

Most excellent! thank you. BTW…did you push the due date back from August 1? I could get them to you by then, but I am in the midst of the Froggwell show prep and would love it if I had a bit more time. If not, no worries. I definitely respect deadlines and if I can’t make it this time, hopefully there will be another.
